2015 Cranbourne Cup First-up for Bring Something

July 30th, 2015

Trainer Ken Keys has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Bring Something since his return to work this time, and has revealed the talented stayer will likely be set for a racing return in the 2015 Cranbourne Cup (2025m) on October 11th.

Bring Something has won a credible four of his 17 competitive starts since first arriving at the races at the beginning of the 2013 Spring Carnival; finishing in the first three on one other occasion.

Revealing the rising five-year-old will be included in nominations for both the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) this season, Keys told Racing Victoria the 2015 Cranbourne Cup should figure as an ideal first point of call for the Sebring gelding this time in.

“He had stem cell treatment and has recovered nicely from that and has commenced work now,” Keys said.

“At this stage we’re aiming to start him in the Cranbourne Cup and will look at targeting some other country cups with him.

“He’ll be entered for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, but it will really be a matter of how he’s going.

“We’re more aiming for something in the middle country cup wise, and the ultimate would be the Sandown Cup.”

Stamping his claims as one to watch from his first campaign, Bring Something finished fourth in the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) on September 27th; progressing to fifth in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m) and returning to the paddock after placing a credible seventh in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

Returning during the 2014 Spring Carnival in similarly impressive touch, the gelding out of Metellus won the Jordans Cereal Bowl BM84 (2400m) on October 15th before repeating the dose in the Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) a fortnight later.
